THE TIME FOR ACTION IS NOW:
NATIONAL ROADMAP FOR INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

Inclusive education benefits everyone. It strengthens communities, improves learning outcomes for all, and reflects Australian values of equity, participation and respect.
The members of the Australian Coalition for Inclusive Education (ACIE), 25 organisations, spanning national and State and Territory based organisations, disability advocacy organisations, student and youth organisations, educators, and family and carer support organisations, with a combined representative membership of over 1.2 million, all share a commitment to advancing inclusive education for all students, in line with Australia’s international human rights obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
As we approach the 2025 federal election, ACIE members call on all political parties and candidates to make a clear and public commitment to inclusive education by supporting the implementation of a national roadmap for inclusive education, consistent with the vision and steps outlined in the ACIE Roadmap: Driving Change – A Roadmap for Achieving Inclusive Education in Australia and reflects the recommendations in the Final Report of the Royal Commission Into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation.
The next Australian Government must take bold, decisive action to build an education system that is inclusive, accessible, and high-quality for all students. This action starts with a National Roadmap for Inclusive Education.
✅ Commit to and implement a National Roadmap for Inclusive Education
A National Roadmap for Inclusive Education must:
- provide a structured plan for system-wide reform and transformation, with clear and ambitious targets, responsibilities, and timelines and robust accountability mechanisms
- provide for support for teachers and schools including teacher and workforce training, school infrastructure upgrades for accessibility, inclusive curriculum delivery, support services and other practical measures to ensure equitable access and participation for all in an inclusive education system
- include a practical, phased approach to transition from segregated to inclusive education systems, ensuring that all students – including those with disability – have access to inclusive, quality education in their local schools
- direct government funding and policy settings to support the achievement of inclusive education
- be implemented in partnership with students with disability, families, educators, and disability rights organisations
An inclusive education system benefits everyone. It’s time for real action.
